Thorpe Park & Chessington with Netty & Helen

 Thorpe Park & Chessington

The sun was shining as we made our way to Chessington for our first day of thrill seeking. We headed straight to get our fast-track passes before planning what rides we wanted to do first. With over 40 rides, there was something for everyone. Like a bat out of hell, we soared through the sky on the old school ride-Vampire. Our legs dangled below as we soared over the treetops looking at the people below.

We were plunged 25m into the jaws of a crocodile, Sobek, the ancient Egyptian Crocodile God and protector of the Nile. The Blue Barnacle took us on a nautical adventure sailing through the skies in Pirates’ Cove.

Our final ride of the day was on Zufari a thrilling off road journey where we came face to face with wonderful African animals such as White Rhino, Giraffe and Zebra.

An ice cream treat was thoroughly deserved after our adventurous day.

How lucky were we? Our lodges had their own hot tub which we certainly made the most of every night.

The only thing on our agenda today was to have lots of fun! We arrived at Thorpe Park just as the gates opened and after studying the map, we had our plan of action. The first ride of the day for this bunch of dare devils was Stealth which is the UK's fastest roller coaster which launched us to 205ft at 80mph in just 2.5 seconds! Wow- what a ride! We twisted and turned on SAW, feeling very dizzy when we got off. A few of the tamer rides were just as fun and after lunch we were keen to get going once again. We got wet and wild as we plunged down the super-soaking 85ft drop on Tidal Wave and played splash roulette on the Island’s ferocious Rumba Rapids. We laughed our (wet) socks off when we saw everyone’s incredibly wet clothes!

A few of us enjoyed the more tamer rides which were just as fun!

Today we headed to the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport. It is housed in a Victorian water pumping station built in 1898 and is run by a group of volunteers who have a passion for transport. They had a wealth of knowledge and were able to answer any questions that we had for them.  We explored old historic cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles (including one of the oldest in existence) together with related memorabilia, fire engines, a model railway display, WW1 & WW2 artefacts and displays plus a large collection dedicated to social history.

We had a great experience at the Jailbreak café which was once The Old Hoddesdon Police Station in Hertfordshire. The former custody suite and cells have been transformed into a unique shopping and dining experience! The staff were even dressed up as police and remained in character at all times! It was so much fun.
