Lake District Activity Centre with Darren & Marguerite

 Lake District Activity Centre

It was off to Lake Windermere to board a steamer and cruise along the lake. It was so beautiful being surrounded by mountain peaks and villages.

We boarded a steamer for a cruise along the lake towards Ambleside taking in the picturesque views and enjoying the photo opportunities. The water was so calm and relaxing.
Deep in the forest we enjoying the thrill of the tube slide. This was so much fun which Stephen and Josh couldn’t get enough of. Next, we attempted the rope course which was not as easy as it looked. Kyle did fantastically and even managed to clamber off the scramble net without a helping hand.

We spent a day in the Yorkshire Dales. Caving was our planned activity so once kitted out with wellies, waterproofs and hats we bundled into the minibus and headed to Yordas Cave in Kingsdale. This has been a natural curiosity since the eighteenth century and was a show cave during the nineteenth century. We found the entrance, turned on our headlamps and ventured inside. Lee was a fountain of knowledge and told us everything we needed to know. We turned off our headlamps and experienced how dark it was in there and then lit candles and held them whilst listening to the history of Yordas. It was soon time to explore deeper, we found the unique waterfall and crawled through the passageways, keeping low, water filling our wellies! Some of us explored deeper and crawled through narrower spaces. What a wonderful experience. Everyone was so brave and really willing to try out new things. Well done all.

After being kitted out we our canoes in the water, strapping them together and set about cruising on the lake. All of us had canoed before so paddling was very easy. It was so peaceful and calm. Lots of ducks, geese and swans passed us by as did a few swimmers. We paddled along a picturesque part of the lake, passing large, expensive houses nestled on the lakes bank.

Down at the archery shed we did our best Robin Hood impressions. Soon we were shooting arrows like professionals. We teamed up and played ‘around the clock’ shooting for different colours on the target. The first team to finish first by hitting the bulls eye won. What an exciting game this was with great camaraderie, everyone cheering their team members on. It was a close game, but Laura’s team came out on top, well done guys!

It was time to face our fears on the indoor climbing wall. We donned our harnesses and hats and began climbing the easy routes. Before long were scaling the more difficult parts of the wall. Charlotte showed true determination and scaled the wall successfully, not once but twice, go girl! Stephen and Mikey were old hats at this and made it look so easy.

It was time to head outside to do some cycling around the grounds. There were lots of different bikes to choose from and we really had a wonderful, fun afternoon cycling around the tracks trying out go karts, three wheelers and mountain bikes. We then took flight on the zip wire. What an adrenalin rush, shooting out from the platform and whizzing across the grassland to come to a bumpy halt hanging high in the air until you are brought down. We all loved this and wanted to have turn after turn.

Today we learnt all about bushcraft, what it entails and how to survive in the great outdoors and of course how to make a fire. This was very interesting and we found that lighting fires with flints and different materials could be very tricky. We all had a go at building our own fires and we all eventually succeeded, well done guys and girls.
