The Island of Malta with Derek, Wendy & Candy

We all met up the night before the holiday and had a comfortable night before our exciting plane ride to the beautiful Island of Malta.  We stayed in a gorgeous hotel and quickly got to know our surroundings.
Each day was bright and warm, with the exception of one wet and windy day when we went ten pin bowling and saw 'Despicable Me' at the cinema.  In the mornings we had breakfast on the veranda over looking the sea - just the perfect way to start our days.  During our stay we took some leisurely strolls around the hotel gardens and swam in one of their many pools.  One afternoon we took the local bus to Portomaso and down the 85 steps to the marina and then onto Spinola Bay.
On Ann's birthday, we took the open-top bus around the North side of the island and on the return journey, we visited Medina, a beautiful walled city.  It is virtually traffic free and we wandered the streets popping in and out of shops as we went. The glass is their speciality and there was plenty of choice.  We purchased some souvenirs and some of us got a horse and carriage ride to the bus stop while others happily walked along the beautiful streets.   After dinner that night, to finish Ann's birthday, we walked through Paceville and ended up in 'Peppermint Park' for drinks and a dance.
On another glorious day we hopped on the bus to the wonderful Sliema and caught the cruise around the three harbours.  It was a marvellous trip and the sun shone to make everything look so beautiful.  Later in the day we took a relaxed walk down to St Georges Bay and indulged in an ice-cream and went on to our favourite bar.
We took a trip to Valletta for a wander through the historic city.  We started off at Barakka Gardens, where we were lucky enough to see the ceremonial cannon salute at midday.  We ended that day having a land-train ride through the streets.
We loved our trip to Marsaxlokk, a traditional fishing village.  We ambled at our leisure through the market stalls, buying the odd souvenir or two! We ate at one of our favourite restaurants which is set right on the waters edge and had a meal of beautiful fresh fish.
We did a good amount of dancing during our time away. Everyone loved to get up and have a boogie!  The holiday was absolutely fantastic and our stay was made even better by the friendliness and hospitable staff at our hotel.  Everybody said how much they would love to come back!
